refugium question

I have a under tank refugium with live sand, live rock, and macroalgae. I am starting to get a lot of algae growth (both green and coraline) on the sides. Should I try to scrap or rub this off? I like viewing into the refugium to see all of the critters in there but it is starting to get hard to see in. Also, I have my light hanging down and signing in through the back becuase the filter at the top blocks the light. I am worried that the algae growth will block the light from coming in also. What should I do? In these pics the light is hanging from the top but I moved it. Just wanted to show how the fliter was blocking the light. Also, this was before all of the growth.
