jcasisa
Hello all, I am going to be drilling my tank shortly and I will be using schedule 80 bulkheads for the drains and the return. However, I plan on using black pvc for the rest of the plumbing since pressure isn't an issue. I see no problem with this because the OD for everything is 1". Am I missing anything? Tank should be painted and partially plumbed this weekend. -John
jestep
It's all the same outside dimension unless you get cpvc which can come in both NPS and copper sizing. Sch 80 looks better, but personally I prefer sch 40 because it allows more flow for the diameter of tubing, and it's much cheaper, especially when it comes to fittings and valves. No chance you're going to need the extra pressure rating for aquarium usage. You can also safely paint it, if color is a huge concern. jcasisa
Another question, how reliable is flexible pvc for aquarium applications? It looks like it could be a good solution by allowing more flow by eliminating 90-elbows and such.
Dean
It works great. I used it on a 65 for a couple of years. The fewer fittings the better!
FarmerTy
It works great... Again, it just comes down to cost. Flexible PVC is ridiculously expensive compared to schedule 40 and a couple of elbows.
jcasisa
I think that is the way I will be going. This site seems to have very reasonable prices: http://www.flexiblepvc.net/Flexible_PVC_Pipe_Black_p/pvcpipeblack.htm
