something to reef on
Anyone have any float switch recomendations? Will be used in conjuction with an apex. I am looking to use it as a high water alarm to kill my skimmer in the sump should my return pump fail. Thanks
something to reef on
no one has any experiences with float switches? I just ordered the digital aquatics ones
+olaggie01
I bought 3 off ebay from China. Probably not the highest quality, but they work for now.
FarmerTy
Same, I bought cheap ones off ebay. Any will do.
jolt
Just remember to check them every so often, sometimes they fail
Isaac
I have 10 of these... slightly more expensive than the cheapo ebay ones, but they come clean (but i still rinse them) http://amzn.com/B00FHAEBIA I also use them w/ my apex and DIY breakout box. I've got it doing: Sump High Sump Low Fuge Hi Fuge Low Skimmer Full Fluidized sand bucket high left overflow high right overflow high vinegar/kalk/ro low ATO (24VAC [w/ timer 15m every 4hrs] power w/ a sprinkler valve using RO/DI w/ a pressurised holding tank) Can never have too many safeguards and datapoints *lol*

jolt
I like to diagram things in Visio too! Very cool
something to reef on
Thanks for the link. I will, have to check those out
something to reef on
Looking at your diagram, is your EB8 plugged into a powerstrip that is plugged into a ups- daisy chained? Or do you just not show what that power strip running your cabinet lights is plugged in to, and your EB8 goes straight to ups?
Isaac
i have an extension cord from inside the house through a chase to the UPS in the garage, which has a nice long powerstrip back inside the house, to which the EB8 is plugged into. the little lightning symbol is the city grid. I actually just updated it. builts a 12v relay triggered by a 0-10v dimmer so i can run the backup heater bypassing the UPS... http://www.maast.org/album.php?albumid=483&attachmentid=26900 i have 2 more spare varports, i might make more of these. all power cords are oversized 20A rating, its sitting on a 15A circuit... better safe than sorry. (I plan on pulling a fresh circuit to the UPS over the summer)
something to reef on
I see, I just read power strip and took that to mean a surge protecter power strip.
Popular Post Bluemoon
this thread reeks of engineer. Delete your post ty, we shan't be a part of this nonsense! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

jolt
I'm out!!! Ok, Isaac, now that Bluemoon and Ty are "out" of the thread (they can't handle it apparently) I think it's safe to post that plumbing diagram. Let's have it!
Isaac
as to not offend anyone, ill just post links... plumbing: http://www.maast.org/album.php?albumid=483&attachmentid=26901 electrical: http://www.maast.org/album.php?albumid=483&attachmentid=26900 in light of recent power outages, i need to split off the circulation pump and air pump to its own power src. will probably make another 12vpowered 120v relay (controlled by 0-10v varport on apex) for other pumps. 12v relay post, will post picts of the new one i make in its own thread: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/31018-what-can-a-controller-really-do/page-3#entry273515 @bluemoon: engineering is what makes our hobby possible. if that was sarcasm awesome, love sarcasm; if it wasnt, might wanna think of all the professional (and DIY) engineering that has taken place to make our systems run (durso standpipe, skimmer, surge tanks, etc). (ps. not offended, have thick skin, sorry if you were/are)
jolt
I'm sure Bluemoon was joking. There is long standing banter about engineers on ARC, but it has always been for fun. (Note the label on my avatar ) The plumbing diagram is nice. So you are not using a manifold, or its just not shown in the diagram?
Isaac
nope, i got like 5 pumps in that sump *lol* I debated a single pump and manifold, but adjusting flow rates on a manifold would take HOURS.... coil denitrator needs like a drop every 10 secs, while ca reactor needs a drop every 1.5 secs, while the fluidized bucket needs about 100gph, UV can take whatever, refugium cant be faster than a 3/4" drain line, etc, etc. just easier to split off isolated pumps where i can.
