AbelR1975
I was showing a friend some pics of my tank this morning. When we got to this one... , he said that he thought it was Aiptasia. I think its a Paly, but I'm not positive. Here is another view... . I have other palys, but it doesn't appear to be the same. . My second question.... Any idea what this is? I'm hoping its just a tube worm, but with my history of having Majano, I'm nervous.
Neon Reefer
The first pic is Aptasia and the tube worm??? not rally sure as it seemed to be retracted. But the tube remained out of rock so may be OK
AbelR1975
Darn it!!! Well, since its on a small rock, it shouldn't be too difficult to eradicate. I'm surprised though.....it has been there for several month with no evidence of spreading. Thanks
jestep
I would lean toward ugly brown pally on the first one.
Bluemoon
+1 jestep. first one is definetly a paly. looks like a nuclear green thats expelled zooxanthellae. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dean
The first picture is a palythoa not aptasia. The green implosion aka green button palythoas will brown out like that when not given enough light. Either way it's definitely a paly
Wade
+1 jestep. Aptasia are typically almost translucent and have longer tentacles and no real solid cup like that does. No clue on the second picture.
AbelR1975
ok. Thanks! I guess the toadstool is shading it, so I'll just move it. Yall think its the same as the green ones? I couldn't get a good pic of that other thing. I noticed that the tentacles, or whatever they are, have tiny barb like things on them. Kind of like a mini brittle star. Bluemoon
my vote is that's the same as your others, or very closely related. they very well could be the arms of a brittle star(s). they come in all sizes. does it retract or move when you feed the tank? Sascha D.
Button Polyp. They would look like these if they got more light. I put some in my tank once and have been pulling them out with tweezers ever since. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+2856+670&pcatid=
FarmerTy
The browned out polyp looks like the green ones you already have in the other picture.

mFrame
Looks like a paly and green star polyp to me.
AbelR1975
Im going to try to get better pics of that second one tonight. Hopefully I can do it without disturbing too much.
Reburn
First one is a paly. I would get rid of it though. If you don't want to I would at least isolate it from your main rock structure. Some palys can be invasive and especially the long lash palys can irritate everything they touch. But +1 to clownfitch.

jestep
Looks like pipe organ coral polyps.
AbelR1975
Think I should leave them and see what happens?
FarmerTy
Depends on if you want them or not would be the ultimate answer to that question.
AbelR1975
If they are the pipe organ corals, that would be nice to keep. I just don't want to keep something like GSP that could overrun my tank.
Bpb
Picture 1 an 3 are the same thing. Picture 1 is just browned out. They're green button palys. They get fairly large and will drastically shift color and size based on light, nutrients, and flow. I've seen them go from huge and solid brown to pea sized and bright green and everything in between
AbelR1975
Here is an update on those little things in the last pic. They are spreading. Still letting them go for a bit to see what they become. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
