Joel Tamez
I was thinking about switching out my metal halide with 2 Kessil A150w. I have heard many good things about Kessil, and I just want to make sure the they are going to give me good light to grow my coral.
victoly
If you're hoping to save on energy cost and heat, you're on the right track. If you're hoping for appreciable growth/color gains (assuming you have decent mh) you're probably bit going to see a lot of improvement. Joel Tamez
Is the a150w fine, or is it that much better to use the a350 or the a360?
victoly
Depends on your tank dimensions.
+KimP
What corals are you most interested in?
Joel Tamez
I eventually want to have a maxima clam, but really all types. My tank is 36 long 22 tall, and 18 deep.
+KimP
I think you're going to need 2 for sure. I have kessils over my tank. And the 350w or 360w with that depth.
+KimP
I love my kessils but I'd really think about what corals you might end up wanting to keep before getting rid of the mh. Or at least keep them around
Joel Tamez
Off the top of my head, I would think: toadstools, hammers, tree, leathers, montiporas, vase corals, zoas, torches candy canes, maxima clams, and other sps and lps. Soft corals
jestep
A150's are definitely too small for that tank. I'm not sure what the suggested size for them is, but I use one in my refugium and I can't see these being of any use in water deeper than about 10 - 12".
GiddyORION
Got two a350s over my 65 gallon. Tank is 36'' by 18'' by 2'. They are great for coral growth plus you get to enjoy their blue light setting!
