+Grog
Question on these Plusrite bulbs. They are flagged as "UV Stop". They look like they have a double glass construction. Do the Plusrite bulbs require a glass shield over them for UV protection or are these self-filtering like mogul bulbs? Anyone know? My current fixture has glass so it isn't an issue. I recently picked up two used fixtures and I'm re-purposing them for growing lettuces. So, if water/salt splash and creep is a concern, for this application it isn't really.... +Grog
It appears they may very well be, as they are flagged as UVS. http://nebula.wsimg.com/67dbb1ce2a64cc07cfe20cda755b9aad?AccessKeyId=438C16BD7312708C436E&disposition=0&alloworigin=
jestep
I was under the impression that all DE bulbs require shielding.
victoly
I was under the impression that all DE bulbs require shielding. i think this is correct. my SE radium is basically a DE bulb that has a shielded glass cover.
+Grog
The vendor said they 'assume' the bulbs are OK without a shield. 'Assume' didn't give me a warm fuzzy so I searched high and low for glass. Lowe's and HD had non-tempered glass that could shatter easily if splashed, and was very thin. And they didn't offer to cut them. BLAH. Finally found an online vendor that had what I needed and they shipped them quickly to me. These fit PERFECT over standard aluminum reflectors. Very cool! So if you need replacement glass, this was a good solution IMO.
