How can I fix this?

Definitely cyano.

You make any equipment or lighting changes, fish additions, change your topoff water source, overfeed, or run out of GFO or something similar recently? What lighting do you run as well?

No problem. Just ruling out some obvious ones.

I would probably chock it up to excessive nutrients and possibly not enough flow. It might be a good idea to have someone test the PO4 on a good test kit or a hanna meter.

Limiting feeding and keeping up on water changes will probably get rid of it. Not sure what your feeding schedule is, but I would probably cut down to 2 moderate feedings per week.

Phosphate is usually a bigger contributor to

Nuisance algae in reef tanks than nitrate in my experience.

Get a test kit, I personally like the Hannah, and let us know. I'd guess you're above 0.10, which isn't terrible, but you see those algae breakouts really reduce when you can get to 0.05 mg/l

I think I'm just going to start feeding 4 times a week. I will stray away from the flakes also. What is a good frozen to feed fish, I have misis shrimp, and brine shrimp.

Fish consist of

1-flame angel

3-yellow tail damsels

1- clown

1-4 stripe damsel

1-chromis

1-goby

1-coral banded

2-emerald crabs

20-crabs/snails

4-turbo snails
