+Capt. Obvious
After my mp40 driver died I had extrely reduced flow for about 4 days. During said time long black ( dark brown?) strands began to form on the glass, rock work and sand bed. The best way I can describe it would be that it looks like individual strands of hair. The have no mat apparent, the easily break apart and can be remover with a turkey baster. The seem to thrive during the photo period and get quite long...and are really pissing off my corals. Attached is what they look like under a microscope. No detectable Nitrates Or phosphates. PH salinity and temperature are all fine.
(Bio)³
sounds like cyano, never see it under a microscope though. Perhaps a zoomed out photo?

George Monnat Jr
In my DT, the cyano has been a red mat and the dino has been vertical, brown strands. cyano: dino:
