victoly
Previously I have had most of my SPS with polyps wagging a majority of the day. In the past few days, all of my SPS have lost colo (potentially just psychosomatic as their polyps aren't out) and have been very closed up. My LPS are all happy, fish happy, params have all been stable. I changed my MP10 location and flow, and jacked up my lights by 10% before all this happened, but they have since been returned to their previous settings. Has anyone else experienced this? (Bio)³
no electrical leak right? or recent water change that might have caused it?
victoly
no electrical leak right? or recent water change that might have caused it No to the water change. No apparent electrical leak, equipment is functioning fine, everything else is happy.
(Bio)³
I've had some coral be closed due to electrical and others be open as odd as that is. Perhaps a WC will fix the situation?
victoly
Yeah, did a wc today and put in new GFO and carbon. We'll see.
BBMarlin
Also check to see if maybe you have had any Alk. swings -brett
esacjack
snails maybe crawling on them as a result of higher light intensity and algal film? how long has it been since you moved your mp10?
ckyuv
I would check alk
bige
I would check alk and look for an irritant. Ie snails, crabs, hitchhiker, or algae. It could be the change in flow and they are adjusting.
victoly
i think i may have figured it out, i started tumbling my GFO two weeks ago, which has led to a slow, but steady decline in alk below 7. I'll start to slowly bump it back up and see how things go.
Toxiq Reef
Equipment will function properly in most cases in an electrical leakage
victoly
Does anyone have a good guide for determining stray voltage in the tank ?

victoly
I measured the voltage, and I got a small reading (0.002v) cycling about 2-3 times per second. However, I turned off all equipment and it still cycled. So I guess that is ruled out.
Toxiq Reef
Equipment off and unplugged?
Toxiq Reef
My tank reads 00.
victoly
So when I unplugged everything, the cycling went away, but it read a constant 0.09v.
Toxiq Reef
I think your fine, if you're truly worried, ground it. What's your alkalinity?
victoly
It went from 8-6 in the span of about a week, precipitated (I think) by moving my GFO to a reactor from a static bag. I think I just stripped my phosphates too quickly and precipitated out some of my alkalinity, although my phosphate readings don't indicate that :/
offroadodge
I was gonna say check your bulbs(if MH). But since you had a bit of a swing in KH then what ever caused that is probly part of the issue. Also look for parasites...real close they can be small. victoly
Yeah, I'm on LED. No indications of parasites, I've pulled my pieces and checked them under a magnifying glass.
pbnj
Do you dose magnesium? It's the key to great polyp extension. http://www.austinreefclub.com/page/FAQ/_/reef-chemistry/dosing/dont-forget-the-magnesium-r33
victoly
I do. Mgs been pretty steady from 1350-1400.
