ShawnM
I have two colt corals in my tank and was wondering what is the best way to pull one of them out? I want to bring it to the meeting to see if anyone would be interested in it.
+Capt. Obvious
is the rock removable? or is it buried/too big? if on a small rock...take the entire rock if on a larger rock or a rock you want to keep that is still removable...remove the rock, cut the colt, replace the rock. if the rock is not removable , start a small siphon near the coral to pull out anything the coral releases in defense (also...run carbon if you can) and then cut the coral off the rock (aka frag it)
ShawnM
where do I cut it? anywhere on the stalk or do I need to cut it as close as I can to the base? and after I cut it will it regrow in my tank?
+etannert
If the colt is anything like a kenya tree you should be able to rip it off the rock. If any residual tissue is left then yes, it will regrow. If you just cut it it will likely regrow. You can cut anywhere you like and it would be fine. I personally wouldn't worry about removing it from the tank, or trying to siphon with one hand while you cut with the other, but your mileage may vary. jaggedfire
I recently trimmed several (15) kenyas back. Just gently tore them off the rock. Only one left even a small part and it grew back. I did run some carbon afterwards as it took a firm grip on the base to pull them off. Will almost have to crush the base between your fingers. victoly
You can take an old razor and use it to cut under the piece if you don't want it to grow back. If you chop it, it will regrow.
ShawnM
Ok I will try and pull him off let you guys know how it goes and if that doesnt work then I will just use the razor blade and try to cut the base as close to the rock as I can.
