CaptainK
So I quit using Seachem Reef Builder and went back to Kent Marine and everything is getting better. I had issues with it clouding the tank, alk was dropping like crazy and a few acros lost their polyp extension. It is still difficult to maintain my alkalinity around 9 and I was wondering if anyone has been successful at keeping a large clam in a small tank? I got my squamosa almost 2 years ago and it started at about 5 inches and now its about 10!
FarmerTy
Tank looks great Captain K! Those squamosas will grow very quickly in the first couple of years. I think it'll be the perfect excuse to upgrade when it starts outgrowing your tank... and yes, giant clams are Ca and alk monsters! CaptainK
Thanks! That's the idea. I have already removed 30lbs of live rock to make room for it. It seems like the clams use alk more than calcium so we will see if I can maintain it.
CaptainK
It's getting close to the 3 year mark and a lots happened since the last update. For a few months almost every acro started to bleach, or bleached completely. I narrowed it down to alk swings, so I bought a doser. I was amazed at how much I had to dose and I assumed it was because of my 12" squamosa. I decided to sell it and my alk dosing went from about 80 ml a day to 10 ml. Everything is finally starting to come back and grow again.
