ckyuv
Hey lived in Austin for about a year now and my gf and I love the out doors. Were trying to see if there is any good swimming holes around the south Austin area where we can take a cooler of beer and hang out. We usually hit Barton Springs but the famous APD gave us tickets for having beer there. We go to lake travis alot and to San Marcos and New Braunfels but were trying to find somewhere closer, any ideas?
+brian.srock
Comal River is my pick. http://www.tubetexas.com/rivers/comal-river.html You can bring alcohol but they have to be in a non-disposable container http://www.tubetexas.com/new-tubing-rules.html

mFrame
+1 for Hamilton Pool, you'll love it there (go early, park has limited parking and caps the number of visitors each day). Robert Rodriguez actually filmed some of the last Preadators movie there. Deep Eddy pool is great as well (same beer problem you encountered at Barton though). jestep
Pedernales for sure. It's towards dripping springs and should be less than an hour. Hamilton is nice, definitely worth going if you haven't, but it tends to be extremely busy and there were police there making sure nobody was drinking the last 2 times I went. If you want to tube, check out dons fish camp. Get there early, like 10:30. After 12PM it's a college and high school kid nightmare. Probably the best float in the area, especially since the towns started cracking down on alcohol on most of the rivers.
subsea
McKinney Falls is a great place to enjoy the water as well as good nature trails covering 10 miles. You will have to be descreet with your consumption of alcohol. Public consumption of alcohol is illegal unless you are at a residence or at a facility with an alcohoal consumption permit. Go to the lower falls. It is immediately below the junction of Williams Creek with Onion Creek. The water is deep and cold in this small pool.
