+Jakedoza
Yep.. You heard me right.. I put an octopus in my main DT with all my other fish.. I watched as it walked around the area and tested every corner for a way out.. I succeeded in creating a sealed box in the main DT with flow.. zilkerfish
"I watched as it walked around the area and tested every corner for a way out.. pbnj
What if it decides to release its ink?
+Jakedoza
What if it decides to release its ink? mmm then it releases ink... and it goes through filtration (skimmer and carbon).

(Bio)³
So there's not physical barrier stopping him only flow?
+Jakedoza
There is a physical barrier.. It does not prevent flow..
mFrame
I love octopi, but have heard of the many challenges in keeping them (them getting bored, escape-artist capabilities, etc.). Tell us a bit more about it! What kind, how large will it get, what does it eat, is it reef-safe/fish-safe? Long-term plans for keeping it? sifuentes31
HEEEEYYY!!! IS THAT ONE FROM RCA? NICE!!!!
+Jakedoza
I did get it at RCA.. it is small, so it will grow. Not sure on the species, it is brown though. I will be feeding ghost shrimp primarily, but I did put a couple of larger hermits in there as well as a couple of chromis fish. It is reef safe, but not fish/mollusk/crustacean safe. Thus the reasoning for sectioning off a small part of the tank.
wizardx322
Jake (rca) got a blue ring octopus before very beautiful but very venomous
+Jakedoza
yeah... My wife won't let me get one.. but it is probably a good thing with an almost 2yr old in the house..
Teresa
What size is the area that its in?
+Jakedoza
The area is 6x11x24.. almost 7gallons of water space.. I learned something else interesting while researching.. Though I and many others have used the term "octopi", it is actually incorrect. Since the word Octopus is of Greek origin and not Latin. The archaic plural of octopus is octopodes, but octopus has been used in the English language for centuries and is considered an English word. Octopuses is the actual correct word to be used when referring to more than one octopus.. +o0zarkawater
Hows he doing? I keep playing with the one in the front cube at RCA. I have a 39gal tall just sitting in the garage that would be an awesome Octo tank..... Wife says no =/

Sascha D.
Pretty cool. I always wanted a blue ring but have been afraid to try. Not only are they expensive, but the success rates vary. I know me and I know that I would want to put fish in there regardless of how expensive the lunch might be.
jestep
River city had a blue ring a few months back. I've always wanted to try a cephalopoid but I would probably opt for a non poisonous variety.
+Jakedoza
I don't believe the one I have is poisonous.. I never see it though.. is always hiding.
Sascha D.
That's the other reason I never tried one. If you have any decent rockwork then you'll never see him. Feeding is pretty expensive as well, unless you can catch a variety of foods. Octos are more prone to starvation and escaping if they get bored with their food selection. +Jakedoza
Feeding is cheap... I go to HEB and get about 3-4 shrimp and freeze them.. when it is time to feed I pull one out and dice it and feed one cube a day..
