10gReef
my Mag9.5 is overheating regulary. its an extra pump I use for mixing salt and the the impeller looks good. it makes a great water heater. would a new impeller fix it?
subsea
Are you using this pump externally or submerged? Is the heat from from the epoxy encased motor or is the heat comig from the impellar housing?
Juiceman
My mags get warm, but they run constantly. Danner said you're supposed to soak the pump in vinagar every 6 weeks. They have a 3 year warranty I think. Might be
10gReef
its an extra I have for making/moving water. I noticed the last week the water was HOT! and it had only ran overnight. I have cleanded it and keep it clean. it feels like its the case getting hot, not the impeller.
FarmerTy
Had one in a brute trashcan with the lid on mixing saltwater overnight as well. It was practically steaming when I took the lid off. I think its too small of a volume of water for them to cool efficiently. Having the lid closed probably compounded the problem.
Juiceman
True! My Saltwater gets warm when I mix overnight also, a strong pump with a small water volume.

subsea
In the old days we used air stones. Only gently bubling so as not to get salt creep. I would use 5 gallon buckets about 2/3 full.
Timfish
I'm with JeeperTy but if you wanted to check the pump you could get an ampmeter and see if it's pulling more amps than it's rated at.
