Christian
Hello all, I'm starting a new tank and wanting to do a blog on what I'm doing each time I make a change to the fish tank. the tank is a 20 gallon long. the tank recently was a tank that had two pink skunk clowns in it, they have anew home, and I wanted to start a frag tank. so right now the tank as about one inch of sand in the bottom of the tank, I will build a frag rack to be placed with in the fish tank. The lighting for the tank is going to be a T5-HO two bulb 54W 48" fixture. time to add water and Make a frag rack!

Brooks
Is that old sand in there?
Christian
Yea from the previous fishtank that was set up in the tank. So it's live sand. Why?
Brooks
When you're setting it up again, it could have some die-off. It looks a little dirty (judging by the pictures). You might consider taking out that sand and adding some new stuff. I believe it is Hydrogen Sulfide that can build up in bubbles in sand that has been in a tank for a while, which is considered toxic to fish and corals. I might be wrong on that, but it is something to consider. Old sand = possibly contaminated with stuff you don't want in your tank!
Christian
I work at petco, so I'll buy some new live sand to put into the tank, and get rid of the old sand. Thanks, I did not know that stuff could build up under the sand, that's good to know.
Brooks
Not a problem! That must be nice for aquarium supplies! Good discount?

Brooks
Your tank is going to cycle though, isn't it? Your Lunar Wrasse might need to be moved to a different tank for a week or two.
Juiceman
yeah, that's my thought, I'd be worried about the wrasse.
Christian
You know I'm not sure I did 50% of the water from my old tanks and made new water.
Brooks
I believe there is still going to be a cycle. To be on the safe side, why don't you switch the Lunar Wrasse over. Or take him back to your store to let him sit there until you're sure the water is stable.
