+Lamont
I have two Metal Halide fixtures. One has a 250w MH w/ 2x96w PC's. The other has 2x250w MH's w/2x65w PC's. I was going to use these on two separate tanks but now i only have a 75g. I hung the the first fixture from the ceiling(6" from top of the tank) and it looks good. Light reaches every part of the tank. I use the 2x96w PC's for supplemental light. So that gives me 442 watts of light.(5.9w per gallon) If i switch to the second fixture would that be overkill? (630 watts, 8.4w per gallon) P.S i am using Phoenix 14000k HQI bulbs. Thanks in advance for any advice.
+dapettit
I think you would have heat and evaporation problems. With that much light and size tank you might need a chiller (or a heck of a lot of Wally World fans). And tank inhabitants will really need to acclimated to the light source. Not to mention a rise in your electric. If it was me I wouldn't do it. But I could be wrong. Just my thoughts.

pbnj
I run a 2x250W MH with 4xT5s fixture (Outer Orbit) on my 75g. It's not too much light, but it does generate some heat. Without my chiller, the tank would heat up over 85 degrees.

The one i use now is doing the trick though. i have it suspended from the ceiling with a fan in the canopy.
pbnj
Did you try using a fan at first? No, I went straight to the chiller because I knew I would eventually upgrade to a bigger tank. Plus, I found one on sale at the time. I'm sure some fans would work effectively.
