+mcallahan
One of our ARC members suggested to me about doing a GB for buckets of salt. I check with River City (RCA) and here is the scoop: Red Sea Salt: 20 or more buckets - $42 bucket - thats nearly $15 off a bucket! Coralife salt: 20 or more buckets - $30 bucket Vote on which one you want and we'll see if we have enough interested to meet the break points. +o0zarkawater
Thanks for posting this Mark. I hope we are able to get it at such a great discount!
+mcallahan
We are @ 14 people for Red Sea. I say let's DO THIS THING! If you want in on the group buy, respond in the thread with the # of buckets you want and I'll work with RCA to get the details of how to order. JamesL
Here is a link to the article Dave references for the above values. If I read this right, the main difference between reef crsytals and read sea is the alk. So is higher or lower alk better?
+mcallahan
+1 to this question ... as I am currently using reef crystals. I switched this summer...no ill effects and I've found it takes LESS Red Sea salt to reach 1.025 than Reef Crystals.
chrisfowler99
Interesting. I've noticed that I have to go above 1/2 cup/gallon to hit 1.025 for Reef Crystals...
JamesL
Interesting. I've noticed that I have to go above 1/2 cup/gallon to hit 1.025 for Reef Crystals... Really? I get to 1.025 with 1/2 cup of Reef Crystals.

+mcallahan
Ok, I've confirmed the Red Sea is the Red sea PRO salt. Right now we're @ 5 buckets. Once I have 20 people, I'll tell Jake to order it.
Rjohn
I'll take a bucket of Red Sea pro. Thanks.
chrisfowler99
Really? I get to 1.025 with 1/2 cup of Reef Crystals. I normally mix 10-15 gallons at a time and hitting 1/2 cup per gallon usually brings me to 1.023. I have to add another little bit to hit 1.025...pretty consistently. mooric
I normally mix 10-15 gallons at a time and hitting 1/2 cup per gallon usually brings me to 1.023. I have to add another little bit to hit 1.025...pretty consistently. I am wondering what people's experiences are like with the Red Sea Pro when trying to reach 1.025? Also how quickly does the precipitation disappear? Currently I am using Reef Crystals and the water in my mixing bucket clears up VERY quickly. Granted, I usually mix my salt the day before I do my water change.
+dapettit
Mine always seems to be a little gray (I mix mine for 2 days). I so mix mine 50 gallons at a time. It usually clears up in a couple of hours after the water change.
+Eckreef
I tried the Red Sea Pro salt and had no ill effects but was not happy with all the sediment. I now use Seachem reef salt and have been happy with the results. It seems to mix much cleaner and completely dissolves. Anyone else have issues with the sediment from Red Sea? +mcallahan
Anyone else have issues with the sediment from Red Sea? I haven't. I mix mine up a week in advanced and I don't have sediment in the container.
Rjohn
I did when I mixed it too fast. Adding about 2 cups of salt at a time over the course of 2 hours or so seemed to prevent the sediment from forming.
+o0zarkawater
I haven't seen any sediment in my Red Sea. I've been using it since the first bucket I picked up at RCA's December sale. It is actually the first salt I've mixed myself, before I was just buying pre-mixed from RCA or Aquatek. (I only have had the 55gal for 5 months, before only a 10gal) I just mix 5gal jugs at a time, and leave a small powerhead and air pump in for 24hrs. I mix by weight, 720g per 5gal jug to get 1.025. I'm really happy with the salt, and I was actually the one who suggested the group buy to Mark, since I am almost out.
absolut_racer
How many cups of Red Sea Pro per gallon, or whatever ratio, are ya'll mixing to get 1.025?
Gonzobob
I mix 10 gal in a 14 gal rubbermaid vat. Fill it up, turn on the mag 9.5 pour in a scoop of coral pro (sadly I've been doing this long enough I don't measure and rarely have to adjust much) let sit for 24 hours and it's good to go.
