  1. Here's the original stand I had made but it was made with 1" steel tubing and 1" angle iron for the base. I was worried that it would not hold the weight and since I had it made by someone near Wylie, the logistic's of bringing it back up from Austin and coordinating a quick turn-around was not gonna happen so I found someone in Austin that build me another stand. I may have over-reacted as the original stand seems pretty dang sturdy but oh well.

  2. Picked up a year old Marineland Deep Dimensions 150G cube(36"x36"x27") from a fellow ARC member. This will be in my apartment down here and I will be transfering content's from the temp 90G I have at my house in Wylie, I really need the 90G moved so I can get everything repaired from the 130G leak last year. I have had a ~80G holding "tank" setup for 5 months already and already have quite a bit of stuff down here already. I seasoned the water in the cube with waterchange water from the holding tank, as well as from the temp 90G. I slowly transitioned the main LR pieces from the 90G over the last 2 months and then used some Dr. Tim's bacteria. This build did not break any record's as my schedule has been very hectic, but I have it going so this is actually a reverse build thread I guess. emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif Wish me luck!

  4. If this does work, I would think it would be more geared towards administering in a QT setup. Up to this point it was a fact that any effective treatment against this parasite, would also kills inverts, that is why it was difficult to create a reef safe ich treatment. I would be willing to go out on a limb and say that most times when someone experiences ich subsiding in a tank using one of these product's, it's more due to the fish's immune system, and not the herb based concoction that is being dosed daily. The best way to prevent ich from entering your DT is by QT'ing all new fish arrival's, There are many thread's on the life cycle of ich, as well as the proven method's and procedure's to follow for getting rid of ich.....once the parasite is actually eradicated from your DT, it will make it come back, so no matter how cold or hot the water gets or how much a fish, it will not get ich simply because it's not in there. There is a lot of data already that point's to this product not being 100% effective so it may be a good idea to actually test the product yourself to make sure you get repeatable result's with using this product. A question on the bacterial medication, it is gram positive or negative and how would this not affect your bio-filter if you put it in your tank??

  5. In suggest getting a quality unit that incorporates a least 1 TDS meter. You may also want to check your incoming water pressure as it will impact the efficiency of any unit you purchase, and if too low, will require an additional booster pump. Keep in mind that production drop's in the cooler month's.

  6. Selling my Teco CA 680 Chiller, it's 1/2hp rated. It's an older model that was serviced right before I bought it used a year ago and it run's great, I just won't need since I no longer have 1300Watts of lighting over the tank.punk.gif We will test it when you pickup to ensure it works. $350obo

  7. I may consider reworking the wavebox. I am having trouble pulling the trigger on those Ecotech pumps. Just a lot of cash to drop on something I kinda already have and like.

    Hey buddy,

Looking good so far, I'm in need of some stand building myself for my 36x36x27 cube.punk.gif

  8. Sound's like the solder isn't adhering to the pad's of the led's. This can happens if you do not use flux when pre-tinning the pad's with solder, or the soldering iron doesn't the watts necessary to properly melt the solder. Flux is often overlooked and oxidation on the wire or led pad surfaces will prevent solder from adhering properly. hth

    Cheers,

  9. I recently got a metal halide fixture for my tank. I have the fixture so that the bottom of it is six inches above the surface of the water. Is this too low? How high should the fixture be above the surface of the water?

It is a 250 watt fixture. There are two HQI bulbs in it and four T5s. It is easy to adjust the height as it is suspended by cables.

The DE's are enclosed but they still run hot as heck. The radiant heat could still raise temp's a bit with it at 6", a bit more air "cushion" help with could with that. May be a good idea to also integrate a couple of fan's between the lights and the waters surface. Having them aimed at the waters surface will really help with evaporative cooling, most have them wired to turn on/off with the lights. hth

  10. How established is the QT tank, and what acclimation procedure do you use?...

Nitrites / Ammonia are 0, the nitrates are pretty low ~ 10 ppm

I'm wondering if it's just the lack of algae / food source. I put some nori in there every few days and it was gone in no time.

I hadn't put any in for about a week, so I'm wondering if they ran out of food that fast?

Starving in a week is doubtful, if the tanks been up almost two months then there should be plenty of food for them in there. Just because you can't see it dowsn't mean it's not there.smile.png

    Cheers,

  11. Yeah it was a brand new 20 long... It's never seen copper, just Prazi.

We acclimated for an hour or so, QT is around 1.025.

System ran for about 4 weeks with DT water and maybe 30% fresh RODI saltwater before we added any fish. Invert went in a few weeks after that, few fish have been in QT since 6 weeks. Tiny Black Ice Clown, baby yellow bellied blue tang, two small neon gobies.

Fish also in there.....what's providing your bio-filter, I do not see mention of LR which I would not really expect in a QT but some use it. Depending on the salinity of the water in the bag, one hour may not be enough. Do you ride around with these after purchasing, any possibility of the water getting warm which would also alter PH of the water in the bag. Something like this is hard to diagnose even with a complete picture, it could also be improper acclimation at the source before you even came into the picture. Are you using a refractometer or hydrometer???

    Cheers,

  12. While it is possible to transfer ich or flukes in the minute water still inside shell's of snail's etc., the risk in pretty minimal. You would realistically need to QT for 4-6 weeks for something like ich to run thru it's life cycle. If some flatworm's were hitchhiking in on the shell's then you wouldn't necessarily get rid of those with basic QT. Are you sure your QT has never been exposed to copper??? Also are you acclimating them based on the salinity of the water in the bag's they were purchased from? Are you using a calibrated refractometer or a hydrometer, you could be off in salinity by a large margin, I have seen stores even have invert's at lower than recommended salinity level's which could not only affect their longevity but could cause wierd losses like you are having.

    Cheers,
