  1. I am a big fan of the MH/T5 combo, best lighting combo out there for SPS. I had to ditch the T5s because my canopy is too narrow... real estate is a premium in there.
  2. I have been running the cheap Plusrite bulbs (250-watt 20k SE) for the last two years... $13/bulb. I have 3 in the tank with the mini-lumenarc reflectors. My tank is mainly SPS dominant with a few zoas and LPS here and there. $39/year for bulbs and on average bought ballasts for $30-$40 each used and reflectors for $35-$40 used since they are considered older technology with so many transitioning to LED.
  3. Looking good! Any thoughts on increasing stand height? It irks me that my tank is not at eye level, and I'm not even that tall of a person. I am guessing though with the height of your actual tank itself that you may not have as much of a viewing issue as I have on the 18" tall tank.

Looking good! I see a perfect spot on the sand for the fungia plate!
  5. Welcome and good luck with the new tank. Let us know if you have any questions.
  6. Biopellets last forever! If you need some to hold you over until the next BRS group buy, hit me up bud.
  7. You wouldn't happen to be using a 72" x 30" tank as a shelf right now, would you?
  8. THANKS TY! BTW Im Johns good friend, he said you were a great RE Agent Hey Jordan. I heard you suckered John into picking up the tank with him. Haha. Thanks for the shout out for real estate! My real job is selling coral frags though so hit me up when you are up and running.
  9. Hmmm... somehow a 215-gallon tank ended up in my garage. Oceanic, "brick tank", with two mega overflows that are drilled through the bottom. Had to look up what a "brick tank" was... basically overbuilt with 3/4" glass so that a center brace is not needed! My life is finally complete now that I have a tank without a center brace! So, the thought occurred to me that I still have a 180-gallon tank in the backyard that I just resealed (need to water test Tuesday). Sump? The tank from my dad is not coming anymore but he is bringing down a ton of smaller tanks (glass and acrylic) that I can use for possible alternative sumps. Awesome. So now I have a 215-gallon to work with as my new tank. One seal has a pinhole leak in it so I am going to remove the whole front pane and reseal. No point in chancing it with 215-gallons in my family room. I also have a solidly overbuilt 2" square steel tubing stand (Thanks Dena!) that now needs to be modified to fit the tank. Tank is 72" x 24" x 28", stand is 72" x 30" x 40". Really, the stand is just 6" deeper than my tank. So, what to do? BBReefer got me thinking about leaving the stand the way it is and just add another 2" steel tubing at the 24" depth mark to support the back of the tank and leave the stand 30" deep. That way I have a stand back there to work with if I needed to walk on it back there and also leaves a gap from the wall so I can organize plugs, add pumps, etc. I think I am starting to like the idea more, each time I think about it. It will also give me more room underneath the tank since I will be essentially working with a 72" x 30" area, versus a 72" x 24" area in the stand. Offroaddodge, you might be getting a PM soon. All these things to think about now...
  10. I had a giant smile on my face when I saw you were setting up the tank with MH. I like LEDs too, just not 100% sold yet either... but I am getting closer and closer as they continue to nail down the perfect spectrum. Call me 85% sold. I don't run a chiller on my system with 3 MH's in an enclosed hood with only the back open. Average temperature is 82 and everything is happy in my tank. I do have the Apex turn on two clip-on walmart fans to cool while the lights are on. Definitely like the look of the new system. Looking forward to the build.
  11. I've never ran a kalkwasser reactor but if it uses pH as the criteria to turn on/off a powered peripheral, then yes. It basically uses the pH level you set to turn on/off whatever is plugged into it.
  12. +1 on the sponges, 2nd pic could be a ball anemone or glass anemone.
  13. I'm going to sneak a giant flatworm pillow into your house Gig'em. Rid you of your fears!
  14. I would just look to make sure your inner seams still look good and haven't been scraped off or damage over the years and then also check the silicone sandwiched between the glass panels for large bubbles. I am sure someone else will chime in with better advice but that's what I usually look for.
  15. Sold! I wish all my real estate transactions were this quick! Thanks Mike! Good seeing you again after all these years.
  16. Pm replied... pending pickup.
  17. Selling my used nano wavemaker. It is rated up to 150 gallons... I will be upgrading tanks hopefully soon to the 200+ gallons range so I will not be needing this anymore. I will give it a good vinegar bath tomorrow to remove the rest of the coraline algae. Comes with wavemaker box with pump, controller, light sensor, and power adapter. It was making a solid 1.5-2" wave in my tank. I took it offline this week. PM is the key. Thanks! -Ty
  18. Nassarius snail, beneficial detrivore who stirs up the sand.
  19. All I have left are fungias and one frag of cherry bombs! Come and get 'em!
  20. Awesome, good to have an ex-reefer back into the hobby again in our neck of the woods! Looking forward to the tank re-build. -Ty
  21. The pop from my orange digitata is definitely a nice addition to my SPS tank. If someone is looking for the same, this is a nice piece for it! -Ty
  22. If they are just the common brown one then I wouldn't worry too much. The red planaria is the one the reproduces like crazy and starts covering up your corals and killing things off. At least that is my experience with them.
  23. Nice cleanup job. The tank looks sharp!
