  1. No papers... just hearsay and conjecture. [emoji14] I'm just throwing out guesses.

    Have you reached free shipping?
  3. Hmmm, a couple of extra heaters might be nice for QT and such.
  4. Sorry for the losses. My guess would be hydrogen sulfide poisoning from too much disturbing of the sandbed at once.
  5. I'm starting to think this bug was perhaps planted? :-p
  6. Get what you want Sascha... you're going to be the one enjoying it 95% of the time. Most visitors could give a crap about my colorful SPS sticks... they'd prefer swaying polyps in the current instead probably. If I'd catered to them, I'd have a 215-gallon tank full of GSP and xenia.
  7. That's terrible! Sorry about the rotten luck.
  8. Do you think this came with the fish or came crawling out of your liverock?
  9. In that case, I'd go with a classic yellow corvette of saltwater tanks... the yellow tang!
  10. I got it from another reefer with adult coloration so not a ton of yellow on it like the juveniles. It unfortunately perished in the marine velvet epidemic of 2015.
  11. Oh you big softie! Haha. Yeah, I don't doubt you're correct, I just would feel bad if I had a full grown naso with streamers in my 215-gallon tank. Maybe that's just my excuse to get a bigger tank. I honestly haven't seen a 16" sailfin myself so I'm sure you are fine. I loved my sailfin, great fish, great personality, and it's awesome when he used to fully flex out his sails! He looked ginormous! I'm a big fan of the chocolate tang and lieutenant tang though I found my chocolate to be a little aggressive at times... but only to particular fish... and sometimes not the fish you would expect.
  12. Thank you Wildman! I appreciate the picture and the great care you've bestowed upon the fungia plate!
  13. I've kind of changed my stance on the Waterweld you can buy at Home Depot Gig'em. I may have been the one to introduce you to the waterweld... I can't remember. As they have increased the price on it, I actually find it a better deal to get the TLF aquastix putty from BRS. It sells for $9 for a 4 oz stick. Waterweld is now $6 for a 2 oz stick at Home Depot so to compare directly, it'll cost $12 to get 4 oz of waterweld versus $9 for 4 oz of TLF aquastix putty. It was a better bargain 2-3 years ago when it was only $3-4 for 2 oz of waterweld. Also, after 3 years of using the waterweld and more recently switching to the TLF reef putty, I find that the cure time is much quicker for the TLF putty, allowing it to set quick enough to hold my corals in place without me hanging on for 15 mins until it sets, leaves less of a residue on my fingers when mixing the putty, and blows up my skimmer less than the waterweld stuff. I still think the waterweld is a great product and an easy option to purchase when you need putty quick... but I find the value better with the TLF putty if you can get it with free shipping during one of our BRS group buys and for the reasons I mentioned above.
  14. I agree with all your observations Sascha. I only wanted to mention that sailfins can get to a max size of 16". My 8" one looked cramped in my old 125-gallon, enough that I started to feel bad for it and felt much better about it in the 215-gallon but I could see it wanting bigger down the line. Not a problem to keep for almost half a decade in your system but after that, possible either upgrade tank size or rehome it. That's my thoughts on me picking up another naso tang to replace the one I lost. It'll be happy for half a decade in my 215 gallon but eventually, I'm going to need to upgrade or rehome it after that.

  16. Video I made of the right side of my aquascape a couple weeks back.
  17. They are repurposed filter canisters... while creative and useful for some functions like running carbon, I'd personally rather run with something designed for the purpose. Just my opinion though.
  18. No kidding... I've been there on the other side of unsuccessful tanks so I like to think I've built up some credit. They're actually both spoken for but if one frees up, I'll let you know.
  19. Ditch the BRS reactor and get a different reactor. That'll solve it right there.
  20. Geeze you're evil.Actually, throwing the breaker is part of the plan. I already unintentionally sprayed water on the skimmer controller box, so accidentally tested that. I haven't tested the leak detectors... Maybe we should try that? I suppose I should test it before testing it publicly and being embarrassed when it fails. If you want to think of possible emergencies, I'm willing to show where the system is or is not capable of dealing with it. I'm sure there's plenty of things that would still be major problems. The darkside calls me too Dan! [emoji48]
  21. As homework for this meeting, can we devise mini-emergencies to throw at Dan's tank and see if it survives? Consider them tank stress tests? I could simulate an electrical outage by flipping the breakers at his house. Perhaps a hose popping off a barb and spraying his whole sump area to test the waterproof boxes?
  22. I definitely don't deserve the patent for that but I for sure push it. Makena explained it well... dab of superglue to the coral/plug, then 2-part epoxy, then another dab of superglue on the bottom of the epoxy, and then smash it against the rock and hold for 10 seconds. It helps to have the circulation pumps off for it to harden before turning them back on. This is so solid, it's usually urchin proof and also giant zebra turbo snail proof.
  23. I'm working on it! Got a rock piled up on it right now!
