  1. I like the idea of doing like a "North Austin" tank crawl with say like 5 houses. We start a thread called North Austin Tank Crawl, with the planned 5 houses to go to and in which order we'll be going to them. We then all meet at the first house, enjoy the first tank, then leave our cars there and carpool to the rest. We can update the thread as we go with pictures and notification of when we head to the next house so anybody can join up with the group. At the end, we go back to the first house and we can vote for the best "this tank" or "that tank", give out prizes, and then everyone go home. This gives the ability for the people on the tour to be part of the festivities too and not have to wait around for an hour or so for people to randomly drop by during that time frame. What do you guys think? That way everyone gets to have fun instead of the hosts waiting around for people to come by and see their tanks and don't really get to see anybody else's tank that day as well.
  2. A skimmer and biopellets should remove nitrates out of the question as far as nutrients are concerned. Then all you have to do is take care of phosphates... GFO should take care of that. Any reason why you're going with the Kessils?
  3. Oh no, the crabs! I'd focus on nutrient removal as well... nice sized skimmer... ATS... biopellets...GFO... something to offset the larger bioload per tank volume in the system. Any corals or just fish only?
  4. Was it in the last year? I know he's changed his lighting more recently.
  5. This tank is going to be awesome! Why couldn't you have just added it to your current tank? Issues with fish compatibility? Wait, I thought squamipinins were lyretails? I think depending where the male lyretail comes from, the variations look very different and some are stunningly gorgeous. The purple queens I hear are hardy to get feeding than most but it can be done. There's an article by someone who shared his story of how he did it. http://www.reefsmagazine.com/forum/reefs-magazine/71849-boldly-colored-beauties-tuka-anthias.html
  6. Did you see people are giving away engineer gobies for free on this club? I bet that would never have happened to a scientist goby.
  7. Do yourself a favor and don't miss out on Vietpride's tank too. His is by far the cheapest option of the three regarding lighting and pretty impressive results as well.
  8. The darkside calls you Sascha!
  9. I did pretty much the same thing Juiceman did on my lights.
  10. Go check it out and see if it's worth it! If I had the budget you guys had on lights, I'd be all over that fixture. I dig T5/LED combo setups.
  11. You can't be pleased Juiceman! [emoji4] Go check out Ol Aggie's ATI hybrid LED/T5 fixture. Pretty much jaw dropping color on SPS and I believe you get a nice little shimmer from the LED pucks.
  12. I was going for just actual number of bulbs... not cost. But if you throw in plusrite bulbs that a certain someone has been running for years.... $14/bulb....
  13. I like the MH option for less amount of bulbs to replace. Have you tried a different LED option? Battlecorals swears by the Reefbreeder Photon LEDs, and he's a major grower of SPS for commercial purposes. Have you seen Vietpride's tank? Artic revive LEDs supplemented by T5s... I think it'll be worth a visit to see his system. One of the best SPS setups in town. Sam runs Radions I believe and his coloration is amazing too for acros!
  14. It's the truth! Nice setup bud! Very jealous of your very steady and deliberate planning skills. You're like a, measure 5x, cut 1x kind of guy. I'm more like a cut it now... then down the road, experiment with difference cut sizes to see if it improves function and aesthetics. Then preach to everyone that stability is the key and to not change anything...
  15. That's quite the run of LEDs there! I thought I remember something else other than BMLs up there. I just remembered it in the wrong order! Any thought to just supplementing the BMLs with T5s? I still think T5s give the best coloration on SPS. Or maybe go MH and use the BMLs as supplemental lighting?
  16. You lost me after the first blah... should have started with a picture next time...
  17. I thought you switched to Radions or Ai Sols? You still run the BMLs as supplementation? Or is it just my old man memory!
  18. You can buy mine from meSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'll trade you my awesome vintage 400-watt MH setup! They're like baggy printed pants... they're making a comeback!
  19. Finally some evidence to back up why running your alk below 8.0 dKh is generally recommended when carbon dosing.
  20. Get some backup filters and DI resin for your RO/DI while you're at it. I do enjoy spending other people's money.
  21. That's the real reason behind the mentor program, peddling corals to my mentees! [emoji6] I'd throw a new thread out in the WTB section since people can't post to your mentor thread.
  22. That's pretty lazy if I have to call you out on it! How was that phosphate level today? See, you screwed up and posted. Now I gave you homework!
  23. My ears were ringing? Did someone call my name? Where am I and how did I get here?
  24. I would have totally snatched this awesome fish Ky but the wife put the kabosh on any new fish additions. She'd definitely notice a lionfish since it looks so unique. Haha. Good luck with the sale... it's not often you run across an already tank-trained dwarf lionfish that already eats frozen!
