  1. Since when did my house become the house of reefing madness where all need to go for QT?
  2. She didn't QT her husband before letting him back into the display house.
  3. You still haven't been able to counteract the forces of your wife yet! [emoji23]
  4. Awesome! Glad you'll be able to make it. I'll have Vietnamese spring rolls and eggrolls for all to snack on. Get there early for these... I ordered like 40 spring rolls and 100 eggrolls last time and I had no leftovers. [emoji17] For previous and current clients, if you will be attending and like to pick up your two free frags for the year, please PM me and I'll send you my list of fraggable corals for you to choose from. If you just want to pop up and see what I have available, I should have a bunch of stuff cut for the SoaSA swap in San Antonio the next weekend. Free gift per family to all that attend (don't get too excited, it's not that expensive). [emoji41]
  5. I have a small gate valve you can borrow for your CaRX until you order yours if you'd like. PM me if you would like to borrow it.
  6. That's how I feel about my alk now. It was the one variable that moves for me and now that I have the new CaRX on there with its fancy carbon doser regulator, the alk doesn't move either. I got some pretty boring data plots. [emoji17]
  7. You're safe with just acros. I haven't heard anything about AEFW attacking montis, pocis, stylos, etc. If you do have a colony close to an acro though, I'd at least check for eggs as I've heard about them laying eggs mistakenly by montis.
  8. This is something I keep saying I'm going to do, but always get lazy and never follow through on. I saw a post recently where someone was using an online tank tracking site, but can't recall the url. Any suggestions? Found this via the googles: http://successfulreefkeeping.com/resource/aquarium-monitoring-options/ some of us use aquaticlog.com Apex has a log and graph function for parameters, which is what I use now. Before that, a handy notepad and a pencil took care of it. I still use both, as pretty and useful as those graphs are, I just can't pull myself away from my reliance on my field log book You're a better scientist than me. I ditched the logbook in a heartbeat and never looked back. Maybe it gave me too many flashbacks of a former life. [emoji4]
  9. Not my echinata! You're banned for 3 months sir from all frags until I get a written letter from your current population of frags about how well you've been treating them! I'm half-tempted to anonymously report you to the APS (acropora protective services)!

    Tank drilled

DIY guy here, drill it yourself. It's totally easy. For the silicone, leave it alone for a week to fully cure before doing anything with it. Just my opinion, but I'm not really a fan of Shane's overflow/plumbing setup. I've never had it myself though, just seen it on other tanks, so my opinion only goes so far. Maybe someone who has it can chime in on their experience with it.

  12. Wasn't I just asking you if you dipped lately? Sorry for the AEFW troubles but I don't think it's the scourge of acros it once was now that we have Bayer, KCl, and melafix on our side. I'm sure you'll knock them out very quickly. Here's what I've been doing for my triple dip of death. I'm going to test combining all 3 on a couple of test frags to see how it goes... perhaps it can save me some time and water. http://www.austinreefclub.com/index.php?/topic/35422-Paranoid-dipping? Can you document if you use KCl? I've only heard reports of AEFW jumping off the acros but haven't seen it for myself like I did with Bayer when my 125 had AEFW. I'm interested in some first-hand experience with that one.
  13. That's good to hear! I would say it's about the same at Aquadome right now. The one's at RCA are still looking pretty nice right now.
  14. Oddly, I've never been stung by one and I've picked up rocks and corals all the time with them on it.
  15. Yes, and it's awesome. Worth every penny. Agreed. I love mine.
  16. Don't forget that the zinc-based paint may be toxic to soft corals... hence why they may not be growing on the container. It's not all win-win with this, though it is interesting to see it has hardly corroded because of the freezing temperatures and low oxygen.
  17. I've always heard this but believed it less and less over the last year, even though I had zero evidence. Today, I feel a bit better about my suspicions after I found this in my new MarineDepot.com product catalog (got a new powerhead on Black Friday): Pretty sure that's the first time I've ever seen it in print (or from any reputable source). Let's keep in mind you saw this in a product catalog for a company that sells products that can help you get rid of bristleworms. [emoji4] Not refuting that they don't attack fish when they get larger but I've never removed any from any of my systems for 12 years now and some have gotten quite large. Can't say I've lost a fish or coral to any bristleworms yet. YMMV.
  18. And now no plants will grow because of all the salt in the ground.Man, 2 teaspoons per gallon? The thread I read was a spoonfull per liter! I'm surprised my corals survived my dip haha We're talking St Augustine grass here. It doesn't mind the salt. Plus, I don't do water changes so it's not like this happens every two weeks.Jeez, didn't I tell you 1 teaspoon per half gallon? At least you found a higher tolerance level we can bank on. How long did you dip for?
  19. They got plenty of the Maricultures at Aquadome, RCA, Niko's, and even Aquatek. I listed the stores in order of quantity on hand last I saw.
  20. Some pond/garden stores around town may even have the impeller in stock.
  21. Yeah, I stopped buying emeralds just for that reason. While useful, they just end up dying on me within a year or less. On the other hand, my urchins, turbo snails, fighting conchs, and sea cucumbers are still going strong.
  22. I kept seeing these little white pods on some of my acros. Not sure if they were commensual or not but I nuked them nonetheless. Oddly, they were only on some acros but not all. They didn't seem to affect polyp extension or growth in the acros that had them. I want to run a few test acros on a combo dip, with all 3 dips in one solution and see if it'll work together and save some time. I'll be doing this one outside in a small cup just in case there is some weird chemical interaction that releases a poisonous gas or something. Yes, I'm paranoid. Look at the title of this thread if you had doubts. Jolt, since its standard Bayer insecticide that I would normally spray around my house anyways for bugs, I just dispose of it along the edges of my house. 2 for 1 I say.
