  1. You'll really want to get a fixture with individual reflectors for each T5 bulb. Without them, you're losing a ton of par. With that Orbit Marine light, I'd say a 4-bulb fixture is actually what you need.
  2. What's the wackiest thing that's happened with your tank or its inhabitants? Mine still is when I broke that piece on the manifold by overtightening it and had 5,550 GPH shooting me right in the chest. I plugged it as best I could with my thumb and proceeded to unplug the return pump with the other hand. Good times! [emoji41] What's your wacky story?
  3. I'm like a little bite-sized morsel just swimming around out there.
  4. Oh man, the things that are happening in the tank to get it ready for the meeting... I hope you guys love it. I'm just happy to have acros back in there. [emoji4]
  5. Fair enough, but when I win the lottery, I'm getting a big ole tank and paying someone else to take care of all the things I don't want to. Probably not 20k gal, but more like 600.When I win the lottery, I'm buying an island located on an atoll. Forget the tank, I'm going straight to the source. No maintenance required though my chances of getting eaten by a shark went up just a smidge.
  6. I was looking into this fixture when I was planning on doing the same thing. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/hamilton-aruba-sun-v-series-t5-ho-fluorescent-retrofit.html You could always order one of their retrofit T5 setups if you have a canopy and looks aren't important. It'll save you money. Also, Marine Depot finally started carrying the Euroaquatics T5 retrofit LED bulbs. They are LED strips lights that fit into existing T5 fixtures. Similar par they are claiming but with a 6-7 year bulb life. I ended up finding a cheap LED bar (reefbrite) that did the same function so I aborted my T5 plans.
  7. My fantasy involves a real aquarium, I mean a City of Austin funded Aquarium, opens up and asks me to be their curator of their 20,000 gallon reef tank. And also pays me royally to do it. [emoji4]
  8. Ehh, I do what I can to entertain the masses. [emoji41]
  9. Sad thing is I'm not even aiming for cabinet grade anything! I just decided to build drawers to appease the wife. Other than that I was aiming for Ty's "Slap a board in front of it" approach Good thing I used a cabinet grade board to slap in front of it. [emoji12]
  10. It's just a tease for you guys doing the 9-5pm. Wait until you get home so you don't get fired!
  11. Wow! Just wow! https://youtu.be/2pxTBHtnl-s"]
  12. Midas blennies have to be one of my favorite fish. They have so much personality. I think it will be fine to be your first fish in the tank. Zoas, I'd stick with the GSP and maybe a zoa frag for now and see how they take to the tank. For your clean up crew, just my opinion, ditch the bumble bee snails and the hermit crabs. I find them both useless and to top it off, the hermit crabs are annoying... may start killing off your snails, and will trample your corals constantly.
  13. If it is a bryozoan, an emerald crab will go after them. I not even really sure my emerald crabs eat them but they definitely rip them off the rocks and attempt to shove it in their mouths.
  14. My guess is a bryozoan, a simple type of filter feeder. I have them on the undersides of my rocks. If not them, then maybe a type of foraminiferan?
  15. I don't think ratios is what we are focusing on for this experiment. Aren't we just looking for pure volume of nitrogen released while being disturbed as minimally as possible to reduce interference of the reading? The issue I see is the nitrogen gas being diluted at all. We need to measure it with minimal to no water flow as Ian said or else risk dilution via dissolution into the water. I don't see where we need to consider oxygen or CO2 at all in this experiment unless I'm missing some sort of interaction between the gases that may skew the data. That is very well possible since my official Title these days is Realtor and not the "S" word anymore. [emoji4]
  16. I couldn't even guess at what bottle I'm on! Maybe 2 bottles have leaked, out of 25?
  17. I would think it would be the more dissolved variety in that scenario. I would also worry about flowing water near the area where the gas has collected causing it to dissolve back into the water and skewing the concentration of collected gas. Just thoughts but Ian could probably clarify since he's been living the dream in Grad school. Haha.
  18. I always store upright. Those bottles have leaked on me from time to time when I try to store them sideways.
  19. I have 2 blocks seeded and ready to go Ian. I can lose one for a couple of weeks for the sake of science.
  20. DENITRIFICATION?! Who wants to put a cover over their ceramic doodads so I can sample the gas and see how efficient they are? You know I'm always down for an experiment!
