  1. Not going to make it today sadly. Had a small emergency come up. Have fun everyone! I'm sad to miss out on the shenanigans!
  2. I don't know a welder but if you haven't seen Paul B's water cooled LED setup, I'd take a look at it and maybe you can borrow some ideas. Sounds like a fun project Timfish.
  3. Do you have like a bobbit worm in your tank or something? Hard to tell but looks like it was attacked.
  4. Putting on your contacts while wearing nitrile gloves because you just fragged palys and afraid of going blind... #reeflife
  5. Done! Car pool is full. By the way , I get 20% of all things purchased or brought via carpool. It's in the fine print.[emoji6]
  6. It's that time again! Swap is coming up soon! [emoji4]
  7. I'm in! Who wants to carpool again? I live by the Domain and Juiceman is in Manor. I have two seats open.
  8. Overstocking, fish trap, new fish additions, poor water quality... any stressor that is beyond normal conditions. Hippo tangs are usually highly prone to ich so it usually doesn't take much. You can try to ride it out and see if it just gets better but if it continues to look worse, you are better off removing all the fish and treating with one of the suggestions above.
  9. Agreed with Timfish, looks like ich. He's outlined the right approach for ich treatment. Some other options are also tank transfer method (TTM) and chloroquine phosphate as well, but those will also require the removal of all fish and it left fallow for 76 days to be safe. To be honest, you could probably just rehome the hippo tang and just run an ich-maintenance tank. You know it's in the system but there will really not be any outbreaks unless there is a stressful situation or you add an ich-prone fish such as a hippo tang, achilles tang, or powder blue tang for example.

He might know something about crabs that I don't know. I don't know everything, that's for sure! [emoji6]

I'd hold off on the crabs as the toxins might kill them like they often do snails and then you're just adding to the problem at that point. I remember my conchs love diatoms but I can't remember if they do any damage to dinos or not. The lights out should definitely help and combined with the peroxide, should weaken them and may help you start to win the battle. I've also heard of people dosing bacteria during this time when the dinos are weakened to try to outcompete them. All anecdotal of course but I see it as harmless to try.
  14. Oh I know! We should have a reef trivia game at the next meeting.
  15. Only thing that turns over my sand are my nassarius, conchs, and sea cucumbers. The mexican turbo snails are great cleaners but I agree with you, life seems limited sometimes. The giant zebra turbo snails have been pretty rock solid in my tank but they are huge... so make sure things are glued down. I enjoy the larger snails more so because of their efficiency in cleaning and if they ever die, it's pretty easy to remove one giant shell than 50 small cerith shells littering my sandbed. Also, when viewing the tank, I'd rather look at only one giant snail on the glass than 30 small snails all over it blocking my view. Just personal preferences there.
  16. For your size tank, I wouldn't use any of them except the nassarius snails. The ceriths and nerite snails are just so tiny they wouldn't hardly make a dent in things. I use the mexican turbo snails, urchins, and the giant zebra turbo snails as my only cleanup crew. I did add emeralds and sea cucumbers as well but that's it. Anyway, just wanted to give you input. The ceriths and nerites will do their job either way so it doesn't hurt to add them.
  17. Yeah, looks like he's just swimming around someone's tile floor.
  18. That's it! Maybe I should call it gray out instead.
  19. Gets really pale white, color looks flushed.
  20. They turn all kinds of fun colors... The whiteout looks cool too if yours ever does that.
  21. That looks clean Jimbo!!! Very sharp looking!
  22. You're a terrible realtor and all your fish hate you! Oh yeah! That's the abuse I like! It's like my wife is right beside me right now! [emoji12]
