  1. I'm not all up on my skimmer technology but aren't they just old school Beckett-style skimmers? Basically, use a giant pump and tons of water pressure to create your bubbles? I always thought it was just one of those fanboy brands but I've never used one or knew anybody who used one directly so the jury is still out for me. Buy one and let me know. [emoji4]
  2. Curious, what's so great about a Lifereef that you like Bpb? I know the people in Houston go nuts for it but it looks like a pretty plain skimmer to me.
  3. I'm pretty sure Timfish did it to prove a point when he was there Saturday. [emoji12]
  4. Done. Thank you Ty. No problem! Now don't confuse my front door for tech support if it breaks on you. Kidding!
  5. For the WP40s, I just keep two sets and clean and rotate them out every 3 months. That has been working well for me. Before that, I'd lose one about every 1.5 years just about. For the DCS12000, I think I've had it about a year now if I remember correctly. You can order it from Fish-street.com and pick their New Jersey warehouse to ship from. It's actually $100 on their website now.
  6. I ran external for awhile with my reeflo hammerhead and I much prefer submersible. It's just much quieter and takes up less room under my sump. If I ever had a dedicated tank room with all the equipment in it, I would happily go back to external as the noise or space would not be an issue. Another factor to think about is the relative efficiency of the newer DC pumps these days. The amount of wattage used to drive those pumps are just a fraction of the old Reeflo pumps. I'm a big fan of my Jaebo DCS12000. I'd buy another one in heartbeat. Quiet, efficient, controllable, and plug n' play. I have an extra in case it sputters out on me. At $120 compared to the other pumps out there, it's practically disposable for something that moves 3,200 GPH. To plug my external hole, I just used a PVC end cap that fit the bulkhead. I used a bit of silicone and then just twisted it on there... done!
  7. Tim probably sprinkles palytoxin on his eggs in the morning. He's probably so used to that stuff that he's probably immune. Sorry you had the same experience Mike with your family. It was pretty awful. My hands still shake and any activity that gets my heart pumping causes me to have short, rapid breaths.
  8. Yeah, I think this subject needs more coverage, since the majority of beginners keep zoas and palys in their tank as they are easier to care for. I'd hate for someone to get it worse than I did. I started compiling a list of palys/zoas in the first post of this thread. If anybody has experience directly and want to add any other types, please send me a picture and I'll add it to the list.
  9. Stupid acros... so sensitive!
  10. Tell them about the color it had when you saw it a few weeks ago..!It was stunning! [emoji7] I thought about buying it back! What happened? Nutrient spike caused it to lose color? Alk dip?
  11. Don't worry... Its a build thread... They never stop!
  12. I guess I should link in to my build thread about my palytoxin poisoning this past weekend. [emoji53] No build thread is complete without a trip to the ER. http://www.austinreefclub.com/index.php?/topic/36543-Palytoxin---My-Experience-With-It
  13. Wuh? I can't believe that! [emoji4] Added 3 60" T5s to my setup. Blue+ in the rear Coral+ and purple+ up front. My poorman's ATI Powermodule.
  14. I like the repurpose use of the laminate boards! For diatoms, the conchs will destroy that stuff.
  15. Oh nice. Perfect how that worked out for you. I'm getting rid of my LED supplement bar now that the T5 supplements are in there. No point for it in my application and it'll help recoup some money I spent so I figured why not.
  16. Had one of these running my old 125-gallon flawlessly for 3 years. Great price for one that includes a peristaltic pump with it.
  17. Welcome to the club Heather! That's exciting that you'll get to upgrade soon! I've had great success with my Reef Octopus skimmer so I don't think you can go wrong with one of those. The unknown looks to be a "ball anemone". A layman's term for the little clear anemones with white ball tips to their tentacles. They will usually open up at night and grab at particles floating by. They are usually hitchhikers on rocks and will usually coexist peacefully with the corals around them.
  18. Nobody touched the limited edition FarmerTy Pink Jade exclusive!?!?? You guys are crazy!
  19. Nice! Where the heck did you hang the BML? It looks like the fixture covers your entire tank from the picture.
  20. It's starting to feel like the best of both worlds with LED/T5 fixtures... either that or I got caught up in the hype. The ATI Powermodules which are a T5/LED hybrid fixture have been the most impressive lighting I've seen in a long time. Both Ol Aggie's and Juiceman's fixture blew me away with color rendition so I tried to emulate as best as I could with about $600 worth of DIY power I could muster.I have no complaints of my lighting right now. I'm in love!
  21. T247, but they came out with a newer version of it that has mounting legs, T247Bs.
  22. You can get away with 2 but you'll get much less par on the edges. If you hang them high enough, you may be able to overcome that since its only 24" deep. I had to keep mine lower to the water because of my 29" depth but generally they will cover 24" by 24" decently.
  23. Wait, 24" L x 24" W x 48" H?
  24. Hey bud! What's the dimensions of the 120 tall?
  25. Well, I tried to take pictures but visually, you can't pick up anything from them. But in person, it's quite the difference. Every shadow is illuminated from front to back. It's awesome!
