  1. I don't consider the snails a nuisance but I understand your position. I think as long as you disclose it when you sell them, should be no problem. That or just take them to the LFS and trade them in for some credit to buy new fish/corals for the 240-gallon. Not a bad idea. I will probably just manually remove the snails that I can and trade them in for a little credit. That way I wont be intentionally killing corals which seem wrong. As for them not being a nuisance - we'll have to disagree! They did a good job of trashing this tank, which is why I am being super careful on the 240g about them. Once they started reproducing it was a losing battle from the start. No dice, everyone has to agree with me. Else I go into FarmerTy pester mode until you submit! Vermatiid snails are your friends.... vermatiid snails are your friends... say it with me!

  3. Why do you think I married her? She accepts my quirkiness and she wears the same shoe size as me.
  4. I barely scratch 5' with heels on, surely we can find a skimmer taller than me for you.
  5. If there isn't a skimmer taller than me in your equipment room, then I failed you somewhere.
  6. 30" minimum... C'mon, we're talking dream tank here. [emoji12]
  7. Alright, I'm going to start a poll. I'm staring at all that work for another 76 days and it doesn't seem fun but you guys make a great point... Patience and get it the way you want it... No compromises.
  8. Well I'm 100% on board with the idea of the dream tank... just need to see how (or maybe WHEN) I can make that happen. You have 6-8 months sir. Let's start looking!
  9. Love these units. This is what I run on my SPS-dominant tank and it gives me great results for a great price! GLWS!
  10. Just had to throw in about the size of your horizontal run huh Ty. Couldn't let my 8" run alone I was going to make a joke about vertical runs but this forum is rated G. [emoji6] System is looking good sir.
  11. Aw man, Bfrench, why did you have to call attention to it. I was trying to skulk in the background and hope nobody notices I haven't put the fish back in yet. So, as usual, long story short... I've created more problems for myself. I'm actually at a point of a dilemma and wasn't sure where to go from here so I was going to setup a poll to see what the people of ARC thought I should do. So this happened. Right before my 76 days fallow was about to be complete, I ran across a red sea regal that was already eating and at a ridiculous price, even shipped. I had to jump on it. I got the guy and sadly couldn't get him to reproduce the same eating that the seller had on his video. He started to get skinnier in the TTM and by the 6-7th day, looked a bit weak. I didn't want to chance losing him so I put him in the tank even though he never completed the TTM to rid him of ich. Fast forward to now, he's the only one in the tank, he's eating pellets and stuff off the rocks like a pig, and he's got ich. So now, do I want to do another 76 days to go fallow again after he puts back on a lot of weight first? Risk the other fish and put them all in hoping that my newly plumbed 110-watt UV sterilizer (3' wide) keeps the ich at bay. Or ditch the achilles tang and the powder blue tang and go back to an ich-maintenance tank like I've done the last 12 years?
  12. I should just create a flyer for all my clients from ARC that buy in Pflugerville... you have high CO2 content water, please make water into a brute trash can, aerate with an air pump and an air stone, then pump it from there through the DI stage. I can't believe you just threw money at it SChrisEV!
  13. Hey, I think I recognize that screen name? You're alive? Yeah, 13' long wall, it's time for mega tank SChrisEV. You got the dream house, let's make it a dream tank too! Unless you're picking up Jimbo's tank and filling that space with two tanks, then I will allow that and gift you with the honor of my presence from time to time to stare at the tanks. If it's only the 5' tank there, I will boycott your place sir.
  14. I honestly think either will be a bad idea in the 40-gallon, not to mention having both in there at the same time. I didn't have success with a mandarin until I had a 100-gallon or larger tank and there were not other fish in the system that would compete for food with it. Yes, I even had ones that ate frozen and they just didn't last without the natural diet for me. Other's experiences may vary though.
  15. That's specially made deep sea duct tape. I hear it's braided with adamantium.
  16. Awais, I responded to you on Maast already with some thoughts if you haven't seen it yet. Let me know if you have any questions.
  17. I have a 5' horizontal run in my system and have had no issues.
  18. Yeah, a small reef club meeting at RCA and he supplies beer and pizza too! Be careful with all that infinite knowledge! Use it wisely and for good only.
  19. I'm already first in line for a frag of it. Can't wait! [emoji12]
  20. To add to that, I think its partially a self-survival mechanism as well. Eat the stinging cells, incorporate, leave the base to regrow so you can eat more later. I've always observed many snails do something very similar with their rasping tongues on the glass. It clears out most of the film algae but leaves just enough so that it can regrow quickly to not deplete the food source.
  21. For leopard wrasses though, I run sand in a small container for them during QT and while running tank transfer method, will give them new sand every three days with each transfer.
  22. Nay for sand is my vote. It can absorb medication. They will be just fine not having sand to filter during QT. Plus if you ever need to sterilize the tank for thr next batch, there's no good way to make sure that sand is entirely clean if you want to reuse. You'd have to basically start with new sand each time or use two batches of sand in which you rotate and let the other dry for a really long time before using again just to be safe.
