    Fish Idea

With tangs, they like lots of swimming room. Maybe some of the smaller types like bristletooth or scopas might work, but still might be pushing it in a 57g.
  3. Try calling RCA or Aqua-Dome (check the Sponsors forums sections for numbers). Both of them carry freshwater fish in addition to saltwater.

Did you mean Potter's Angelfish? If so, yes they are really different in coloring ... Aqua-Dome has them in stock frequently. I have always wanted one, but had a clam in my tank and did not want to risk it. Now that I am clamm-less, I think they are high on my list again.
  5. Last day to enter the photo contest!

  6. 2 days left to get your photo contest entries in!

  7. We had a sponsor get some Crinoid Squat Lobsters in a while back... they are neat. Though mine eventually vanished
  8. Well, it can vary on how elaborate you want to get. Some people bring their own small tanks and set them up to display their frags. Others bring frags in bags or disposable containers to show them off (some even bring pictures of the frag "open" or under aquarium lights). There was talk of an ARC run frag tank where people could rent space ... not sure on the details of that. Most are transported in bags/containers in a cooler. Quantity and size is up to you. Some people will be looking to swap coral, a lot will probably be looking to pay you cash. If it is something colorful/must requested, then obviously the more the better. Basic corals do sell/swap well as a lot of beginners come to the swaps.

  10. Moving this to the Off Topic for discussion. And just to clarify one point, ARC is not a non-profit.
  11. Almost all of the local fish stores (LFS) will test your water if you take some in to them.
  12. We caught this swimming near the beach in Port A last year (released it shortly after).
  13. A 90g tank would eventually become a bit small for a full grown powder blue tang. There are smaller tangs (like the Scopas and Bristletooth ones) that would do better in that size of tank. If you get a mandarin, make sure it eats frozen food, else it would starve in a FOWLR tank (they tend to starve in most reef tanks too). If you get 2 maroons, make sure they are a mated pair, else they will fight. They can be mean fish. Other than that, I think the stocking plans look good.
  14. If you use some photo software, you can sometimes correct the white balance (manually or automatically). This helps remove the blueness.
  15. I swear my decorator crab doubled in size when it molted. It is a lot scarier looking now.

      Did he recycle the decorations?

No, he left the red sponge on the old skin, and went on a clipping spree on my kenya tree and green leather.

Isn't it nice how they frag for you? I have Kenya trees growing in random places now.

  16. The category for April is: Zoanthids/Palys. Show us your best shots of zoanthids/palys. Please note the new rules: Picture must be taken by you. One entry per person. Picture must be of zoanthids/plays in a fish tank or ocean. (New) You may only win once per calendar year. Thus if you win a photo contest in 2012, you will not be able to enter any future contests for the year. We feel this gives everyone a chance in the contests throughout the year. Submit your photos to the following gallery: http://www.austinreefclub.com/gallery/album/428-april-12/ Submissions close at midnight April 15th. Winner receives a $25 Aqua-Dome gift certificate!
  17. Starting a thread for vehicles spotted during April 2012 with an ARC vinyl sticker on it. Remember you need a picture posted in this thread first! And the official rules: You must post a picture in the info thread showing the ARC vinyl sticker on your vehicle. The picture must clearly show the sticker, make, model, and color of the vehicle. Please blur out the license plate if it is included in the picture. Only ARC staff members are qualified to "spot" a vehicle. Official ARC meetings, gatherings, trips, etc are not eligible for a vehicle to be "spotted" (come on, that would be too easy!). One entry per person for a given month. You may only win once per calendar year. ARC reserves the right to modify the contest rules and what-not at any time. The random winner of this month wins a $25 gift certificate to Austin Aqua-Dome!
  18. Congrats to stoneroller for winning the March photo contest!
