    Very vibrant colors!
  2. Most fighting conchs also like cyno ... another benefit.
  3. The category for April is: Fish. Show us your best shots of one or more fish. Please note the new rules: Picture must be taken by you. One entry per person. Picture must be of fish in a fish tank or ocean. (New) You may only win once per calendar year. Thus if you win a photo contest in 2012, you will not be able to enter any future contests for the year. We feel this gives everyone a chance in the contests throughout the year. Submit your photos to the following gallery: http://www.austinreefclub.com/gallery/album/444-may-12/ Submissions close at midnight May 15th. Winner receives a $25 Elegant Reef gift certificate!
  4. Nobody was spotted in April But a lot of stickers went out near the end of April, so chances are better in May!
  5. Starting a thread for vehicles spotted during May 2012 with an ARC vinyl sticker on it. Lots of stickers have gone out with memberships and at meetings... time to start seeing them on the road Remember you need a picture posted in this thread first! And the official rules: You must post a picture in the info thread showing the ARC vinyl sticker on your vehicle. The picture must clearly show the sticker, make, model, and color of the vehicle. Please blur out the license plate if it is included in the picture. Only ARC staff members are qualified to "spot" a vehicle. Official ARC meetings, gatherings, trips, etc are not eligible for a vehicle to be "spotted" (come on, that would be too easy!). One entry per person for a given month. You may only win once per calendar year. ARC reserves the right to modify the contest rules and what-not at any time. The random winner of this month wins a $25 gift certificate to Air/Water/Ice!
  6. Not going to be able to make it to this one. My daughter has a dance recital that same day.
  7. Congrats to ludakris for winning the April photo contest!

  8. Final day to cast your vote for the Pic-o-Month contest!

  9. Good to know. In the 6 years at this place, only I have been stung once. Our one dog is good about scouting them out. If we see her following something on the floor, it most likely is a scorpion.
  10. Yeah, the dangers down here. I had one get me when I brushed up against a chair in the house. (Which reminds me, might be time to get the pest guy out here.. I have killed 2 in the house so far this year)
  11. No offense but I don't think it's appropriate to go down this path. I would suggest contacting one of the staff. From my understanding, Derrick sums it up well. Like Dave said, we don't need to be bashing/flaming anyone on this site (be them part of it or not).
  12. All I can say is that Tim is correct in that you will get opinions that run the whole range (and it is not just this hobby ... once you get this many people together it is bound to happen). So now for my opinion I would not "scrap" the whole thing just to remove the "live sand". If the tank is doing good, let it be. Nitrates accumulating in the tank is a natural thing. Adding a fuge or macro helps with this, but periodic water changes also reduce it.
  13. They put a picture up on their Facebook page of it right after adding rock.
  14. My fish/corals are lucky to get fed once a week.... and all are doing great.
  15. Didn't you also have a cube in the end? You have had nice tanks. Hoping this works out!
  16. Or spray paint a crab ... think of it, you could have a crab with purple flames on it's shell!
  17. Do you feed your tank a lot? Hungry fish tend to be more prone to eat algae when they are not full from pellets/mysis/etc.
  18. He would probably be the only thing left in your tank Look at those claws!
  19. During the first months of a tank being set up, it is common for the water parameters to fluctuate. This is especially true during the first month or so when a tank normally goes through the nitrogen cycle. But even after this, algae blooms work their way through as a tank matures. All of this can stress an anemone and cause it not to survive (this is true with a lot of corals/fish too). Anemones are a super-long lived creature in the wild, but in lots of cases tend to live only a slim fraction of that in captivity. So by providing a nice mature and stable tank, you can increase the likelihood of the anemone surviving.
  20. on the diving certification. I am PADI advanced certified, but have not dove in many, many, many years
  21. It should work now. There was a permissions issue with Professional Members that I fixed. Still no luck, man Try again. I told it to resync the permissions....
  22. Bump ... there were a lot of people who got ARC stickers at the swap Saturday. Make sure to "register" you vehicle here (see first post).
