  1. The anemone shrimp was out and playing this morning in the tank.
  2. Correct on the name ... though I think it can apply to a wide range of palys (I am not really that big into the whole name game). I think what makes a PPE a PPE is the highlighting around the mouth. Yes, a little too good But everyone in the house likes that there is more movement in the tank now. The anemone moved slightly last night, still hoping it stays in the general left side of the tank.
  3. Not sure the official name (never been big into those), but they are a pretty bright green palys, that spread like wildfire. I started with a small frag (from an ARC frag swap) with about 10 polyps, I now have then in many places in my tank, with one huge rock covered in them (rock is like 12" long by 6" wide). Oooooh, I like those aqua blue ones in the lower left. What are those called? Those are duncans. Really like them, and they do really well in my tank.
  4. Seems yesterday was ARC members day at the Gallery. I ran into Mr. Santa while there too.
  5. My daughter really enjoyed the visit to your story today. Between getting to peek through the domes, do crafts, and get her face painted, she had a blast. Is this a normal Saturday thing? Or was today something special?
  6. Oh, and I got new impellers and covers for my 4 Hydor Evo pumps... man, the impellers make a huge difference in the amount of flow (and the non-clogged covers might help in that). And just in time, as my injured six-line has been getting braver and venturing out into the tank.
  7. New coral from Fish Gallery, some PPE's .. took a small chunk of it and put it in the 24g tank.
  8. Goodie day! Finally had a free Saturday to go LFS shopping. So headed out and hit Fish Gallery, RCA, and the Dome ... and of course walked out with something from each Everything went into this tank, minus one large chuck of zoa's (but a frag of it went in this tank). From the Gallery, some PPE's: Here is the main colony in my 75g: RCA was the big haul today.... 2 yellow clown gobies: A Rose BTA: Two ocy clowns (kinda mis-barred, which makes then neat): And some green zoas: Not pictured from RCA is a small frag of orangish zoas, which weren't open yet. And the Dome I scored an clear/blue anemone shrimp which went into hiding, so no pictures either. Nice to have some movement mid-water now (the clowns) ... as the watchman hides a lot.
  9. 3 LFS (Sponsors even :) in one day... my wallet is a hurting.

    1. Mlaw

      Mlaw

Managed to hit 4 of them with my sister in law and 2 year old. Good times but couldn't find much to buy. You must have been beating me there and getting the good stuff.

  10. Coraline will change colors if it is exposed to air ... mine would change to an orangish when I would re-arrange the rockwork in the tank.
  11. They kind of look like some "snake polyps" I have in my tank, though maybe not. Snake polyps are in the zoa family, but are more nocturnal as they are non-photosyntheitc (though mine open up during feedings. Maybe a type of hydroid?
  12. My tiger pistol has been moving sand all throughout the holes in my rock. I rarely ever see him though, just an antenna here and there.
  13. Generally decreasing nutrients and increasing flow in the regions affected by cyno will help.
  14. Ordered 4 replacement impellers and covers today.
  15. I swear, after all these years keeping saltwater critters, molting still catches me off guard. Walked by the tank this morning and saw my porcelain crab upside down on the rock work. Then off to the side I see him clinging to the rock. Looks like the few drops of iodine I put in yesterday triggered the molt.
  16. Ok, nevermind ... I didn't look that hard. Just found a site with replacement impellers and covers. And I found an official site saying that the impellers should be replaced every 2 years to prevent them from running backwards (which mine do). Looks like I know what I will be ordering soon
  17. Ya know, I did for a short while after the initial chopping incident. I looked online, but could not find replacement grills for the Hydor Evolution pumps. I think they want you to buy whole new pumps. I think said fish has learned his lesson ... much to my demise, as I don't see him swimming around the tank.
  18. Holy cow... I just saw said six line zip through the tank when I was feeding today. I had saw him come out of the powerhead after the fish scale shredding incident, but he drifted below some rock work and I had assumed the clean up crew took care of him. But I guess not. That is one tough fish.
  19. Too bad the Kellogs factory in Battle Creek stopped doing tours. I did one of those when I was a kid. The TN aquarium is pretty neat. Depending on how you go through MI, if you hit the Detroit area, the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn is worth a stop. Besides the cars, the attached Greenfield Village has a lot of original stuff from Edison and other inventors.
  20. Maybe that is why emeralds always worked for me... I don't feed my tank that often
  21. Sorry to hear about the troubles! This is making me re-think getting one for my symbiosis tank
  22. Ha .. I figured that tank was still around. Never really thought at the time I sold it that I would have multiple tanks again. But for some reason, anemones just never took to my large tank, well except for my maxi mini carpet, which is doing fantastic. I think you should set it back up, *nudge* *nudge*
  23. Thanks. I really like the corals, too. But yeah, lost fish is a sad bit of it. Better when they are days old than years, though. I'm not good at siphoning without tasting. It's not like I just dipped in a cup to check my levels . You need one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Python-Squeeze-Starter-Aquarium-Adapter/dp/B0017JHPA6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1372880585&sr=8-3&keywords=python+pump I have one at the end of my siphon hose, works great. I also snake my siphon hose through one of these to let it hand on the tank rim: http://www.amazon.com/ProClear-Aquatics-Siphon-Tube-Prefilter/dp/B0006JLV12/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1372880641&sr=1-1&keywords=clear+u+tube
