  1. razor blade through the foot worked for me. generally the rock is soft enough that you can cut the rock beneath the foot so that it is easily superglued elsewhere. if you have to cut flesh, you have to use rubber band or some other method to get it to attach naturally.
  2. Depending on the species, they can have some pretty mean sweepers that come out at night. Toadstools are pretty harmless in my experience and don't do great next to aggressive species. I'd keep some distance between the two.
  3. http://www.rosystems.com/pdf/Filmtec-Membranes/filmtecliterature.pdf The specs for filmtec membranes (which is what most reef rodi systems use) use softened water as a baseline. I'm speculating here, but calc and combinations of calc/mg are probably more prone to scaling up your rodi membrane and prefilters than sodium, which is less likely to precipitate out of solution. The membrane is going to reject sodium ions just as easily as the calcium and magnesium that an ion exchange water removed.
  4. Something else to consider about the pump vibrations is that you can add a small section of flexible tubing to both the inlet and outlet sides. Sometimes what you're hearing is the vibrations of the plumbing, which then gets transferred/amplified by the tank stand or tank itself. Try the easy stuff first, but when I rigid plumb, sometimes I get that hum.
  5. Pretty sure brs is a 2-part mg solution.
  6. I like peroxide. It's worked well for me and has yet to kill a zoa. Some people do very strong treatments (1:1), but I do it where I have the rock submerged and then slowly add h202 until I see bubbling. I left mine in for 10 minutes or so, and then rinsed. You might manually remove (out of the tank) as much as you can and then do the peroxide. Probably wouldn't hurt to overdose mg for a bit either just to play the numbers game (all of this is in addition to skimming heavy and feeding light until you have it under control)
  7. Putting it after the softener would probably be beneficial to filter life if it doesn't present too many logistical issues.
  8. Are you on your phone at half time ? Shouldn't you be headed to the alumni center to drink away your sorrows ?
  9. Hopefully he made you wear a aquaculture ranch aquaculture ranch t-shirt to advertise.
  10. there are some sponge eating nudis i believe
  11. A) I'm shifty. B) why do you have to punch holes ?
  12. Maybe it's time to get that ATO...
  13. Roger actually steered me to Aquatek to purchase.
  14. Im tired... 11 is kind of on the high side of normal, if your wc is high in alk it might have pushed it up higher.
  15. You left off alkalinity as a test parameter. When it comes to corals suddenly changing color, alk swing is a pretty common cause.
  16. Only thing that happens when your mg is high is that you waste money dosing it
  17. I dont think you can use another pump. Some ATOs have a 120v regular old switch you can plug whatever pump you want into, but I think the tunze uses a DC pump. Theyre not super expensive, i wanna say like 20-30 bucks?
  18. OHHH might be air locked! good point!
  19. You just got christian bale'd
  20. I'm not sure that they can be opened up. Are you using it with the osmolator or standalone? You can test the pump standalone by connecting a 12v battery to it. you might also try a vinegar soak and see if there's just grunge in there. if all else fails, aquatek has em for like a buck more than you can get from roger.
