    EB8

welp. I now have a backup EB8 and I bit the bullet and bought a backup head unit. Anyone who needs it can negotiate very favorable rates for access.

I'd make a joke about DA7 quality, but I am sending my units in for repair, sooooo.... i wont.

anyone have an eb8 and maybe head unit i can borrow while i send in mine for repair?
  4. Depends on the type of silicone. Some come with a mold retardant that will mess your tank up.
  5. kind of like this? http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/25757-your-tank-today-2313/
  6. Yeah, this was outlet 5, so it shouldn't have had an issue. Relay outlets are 4 and 8. No kidding, who knows how much this cost me when chiller/heater were fighting eachother over the summer.... Now I'm running at like 75 and fretting that my SPS are going to do crappy. oi vey. The apex showed it as on or off or auto, whichever I selected. However the outlet itself was not registering the state that showed in the dashboard. I have not tried openreefs.
  7. Soooooooo, I've always thought that I had a heat issue because I ran two pumps (60w total) in a small, enclosed tank with 60w of LEDs keeping my tank hot. Turns out, my heater was plugged in to an outlet that failed on, even though the controls showed it as being off. I've verified with a lamp, but needless to say, I've wasted bookoos of energy having my heater and chiller fight against eachother. Just a heads up to those of you out there who have temperature issues with an apex.
  8. yeaap. no LEDs, just a 250w radium. definitely need to address the light spillage with a shroud and measure my PAR so i can match up what I had with LEDs to what this will put out. the colors are amazing though...
  9. Was the foxface consuming it ?
  10. Aye, makes sense now. So the kessils have LEDS that are at or under 400 nm?
  11. Ready and willing to trample if need be.
  12. I guess I'm just confused. Isn't UV light simply light that falls into the UV spectrum? What makes the Kessil UV "true" UV?
  13. Great write up! Just curious if you can explain the difference between true UV and LEDs that fall into the UV spectrum that aren't UV.
  14. any chance wet sides will get a similar discount?
  15. hopefully everyone paid in bitcoin
  16. Yeah, maybe get some pipe insulation and put that inbetween the pipe and the strap? 200-300 gph is much more than sufficient to run single reactors. I run both from an MJ1200 which is like 300 gph, and I have it throttled wayyyyy down. Granted youll be running more media than I will based off of tank size, but you should be fine. I'm not only a member of the skimmer, I'm the president. For BPs, as a result of your tank size you're probably right to investigate larger options.
  17. If I recall correctly, you're running off of a manifold? If so, I'd do two single reactors instead of a dual. That way you can control flow to each reactor individually, as well as taking one offline without affecting the performance of the other. With respect to circulation pumps, I'd definitely go WP40, just because of the controlability aspect. You future proof yourself somewhat if you ever decide to start using a reef controller, because the WP40 has flow that you can adjust (even without an apex) using the controller that comes with the pump. With koralias, you just get on/off functionality unless you buy their specific controller. On to biopellets, they definitely have a pretty big cult following. There is some risk involved, such that you can overdo biopellets and strip your water. BRS makes a cartridge for tumbling BPs which you could also attach to your manifold. And skimmers, well.... You know something is fishy when your wife starts prodding you to buy power tools. Very suspicious....
  18. The titration kits for Ca, alk and Mg are all pretty reliable. The hannah calcium checker is prone to user error.
