  1. Yes, they need it and get it from the water column and also from food, potentially, although it seems much more likely in aquaria that they would be getting it from the water.
  2. Do you have before and after phosphate readings?
  3. Like brian said, it depends on what you're wanting to do. If you're going to run a simple tank with soft corals only, you can probably get away with it. If you're going to do a more complicated tank with delicate inhabitants (SPS corals primarily), you're probably better off using RODI. That's not to say that it can't be done, it's just one variable that you can remove to aid in having a successful tank.
  4. probably not. there is a weird demographic that will pay a ton for an apex but not a ton for jebao.
  5. they might change connectors to prevent that exact scenario.
  6. http://reefbuilders.com/2014/01/08/signs-point-neptune-systems-working-apex-pump/ Makes perfect sense as to why there has been no out of the box attempts at integrating the jebao. Now neptune will make the same pump (potentially literally the same pump), and you can bet that the price will reflect the neptune sticker! I wonder how ecotech feels about this...
  7. can you take a screenshot of your internet preferences tab on your apex, and then another of your routers port forwarding page?
  8. Yeah, par meter (which i currently have). I'd go 10% lower than what you have now and slowly ramp up. I've burned/bleached when changing LED setups at the same par, so go low and acclimate over a period of weeks or months, especially if ou have sps.
  9. Pretty sure they all do. I'm not sure though if phosphate is a good leading indicator vs TDS to use for filter replacement.
  10. Yes, but the repercussions can be longstanding if you still have excess nutrients from the death.
  11. Yes, SPS tend to be the most sensitive, so it makes total sense that those would die and the others would be fine. If your acro is rapidly bleaching upward from the base, i've had success clipping from a healthy part of the flesh and regluing to a plug. Of course you need to locate and address the underlying water quality issue that nuked everything in the first place.
  12. http://forum.neptunesystems.com/showthread.php?3611-fusion-coming-online&p=21996#post21996 If you've updated to the most recent firmware, there use to be a tile on your dashboard that read something like "apex fusion communication disabled" or something to that effect. no longer! you can generate a token now that will presumably be used to sync register your controller. i am excite!
  13. So if everything is out of this tank, where are the pictures of the new tank?
  14. Depends on the amount of agriculture in the watersheds of those lakes, in addition to how much was received during the fertilizing season. I'd guess that the lake sources, even with treatment, would have a higher dissolved PO4 reading than a well based water utility (assuming it wasn't in an agricultural area and was properly installed).
  15. North austin and south austin (with the river being a rough dividing line) are served by two separate water treatment plants. I'll test my RO from storage and from tap whenever I can get to it.
  16. Logistically, they still have a stock at many retailers. If you're not buying from them for philosophical reasons, more power to you
  17. its time for a post mortem fts,,
