  1. coudnt you remove x amount of water and replace with fresh RODI?
  2. We freed the crap out of that reef. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
  3. SPECIES TANK! I can't wait to set up a tank full of slippery *****!
  4. i wanted you to buy it, then make you regret it. orrrrrr i forgot.
  5. there are a few people in town who would probably take him. Personally, I'd do it now instead of later. You're just going to grow attached and either a) end up getting a huge tank down the road (not a bad thing) or keep him past the time that it may be wise to do so as a result of the aforementioned affection. Do the right thing bro! sell him to someone with a monster tank and make them pay you in frags
  6. there ya go. was gonna try to steer you away from the nano. so much blue.
  7. yeah, the stylo polyps look more feathery to me than a digi.
  8. some do that when the relay closes to actually start the chiller. still, it shouldn't be noticeably loud and may be a sign that preparations should be made for a backup of some sort.
  9. the daily feeding is probably contributing, I'd cut wayyyyy back on that. Like Bpb said, GFO to get the phosphate out is helpful as well, but IIRC, you're already doing that.
  10. I'd ask around and see if anyone has one they will loan/rent you. Like Bio said, youre probably going to have a tough time finding someone to work on this, but you might give some of the commercial refrigeration guys a call (think people who fix HEBs refrigerators) to see if they can help you or point you to someone who can. In any event, if it's 81 at night, I'd crank the house AC down to try and mitigate this as best as you can (I'm talking like 72) and see if that gets you where you need to be. If not, you can turn the lights off until you can get a loaner or replacement chiller. If they're not already employing evaporative cooling, you can put a box fan to blow over the sump, and that should keep you in the low 80's as well, you'll just need to keep an eye on topoff water. I'd guess that all of the LFSs have 1/4 HP chillers in stock, so you might put a feeler out to the GF's parents and let them know that it might be a good time to think about replacing the non-functioning chiller.
  11. It's not without risk, but it's a pretty good way to lay waste to the cyano while you get the root cause figured out. I'd like to echo what Rob said, your tests are low because the cyano has removed the nutrients from the water column.
  12. roland you had better be preparing the most epic build thread that ever existed. What size unions are you looking for?
  13. Why not public ?! The hive mind desires knowledge !

  15. So i finally got my Hanna 761 in today. It reads total chlorine in the ppb range (+/- 5 ppb)! My RODI with CGAG reads 12 ppb or 0.012 mg/l. My CGAG and pentek are roughly 6 months old, and I'm guestimating that they have produced ~500 gallons of total water. I'll take readings of the whole system tomorrow and see what I come up with.
  16. Tds meter $15, new never used sold Hanna total chlorine checker w 16 regent pouches, 2 cuvettes $25 pending Open Bag of soda lime (co2 scrubber) $5 sold Hanna Calcium Checker with 2 nearly full sets of reagents $45 Red Sea algae test kit (Nitrate and Phosphate), used 24/100 tests $15 Red Sea magnesium test kit, used 9/100 tests $15
  17. kalkwasser with ATO, have a bag of carbon, no creature dead or alive could be responsible for that. sure there could be! sea apple death, anemone getting shredded in a powerhead, boxfish, etc. Sounds like nothing like that happened though. did you just happen to change your GFO? Ive had alk swings/phosphate swings that reealllly made my SPS mad.
  18. OOPS, i knocked over everything in Roland's tank, frag-free-for-all!
  19. yeah, those arent gonna cut your SPS proficiently. Bone cutters are the bees knees.
  20. also, i dont know if youve documented this in the past, but I'd love to see a full tank/full room setup shot with descriptions. your photos are always top notch.
