  1. I brought home a gorgonian Tuesday which was sort of an impulse buy. I knew I wanted one but hadn't learned all about them yet. Anyway, at the LFS I was told that it is not photosynthetic and needs to be fed. After doing some research I'm not so sure. I will attach a picture of it, does anyone recognize what type this is? I read that the colorful ones are the ones that are not photosynthetic. This one just looks like a common brown one. I have it at the bottom of my tank now and it will probably not get enough light if it's a photosynthetic one so I'll need to move it. Also, just in general, what symptoms to corals tend to show if they aren't getting the light they need?
  2. As of yesterday it's still not set up yet.
  3. You can purchase heater guards from seahorsesource or possibly at a LFS, or you can quickly make one out of plastic canvas.
  4. It sounds like you are doing a great job. I've really enjoyed keeping up with this thread, thanks for all the pics! Also, this is WAY late, but if you ever do need to keep a heater in with seahorses, they make heater guards you can buy, or you can always make your own out of plastic canvas.

    Hi everyone!

I would love to chat about having seahorses! Until now I didn't know anybody else in town that kept them, or even knew anything about keeping them. I have erectus also. 4 month old fry? That's GREAT! Good job
  6. Yay! Welcome guys. I love Aquadome
  7. Congrats on the new fry! How exciting. They are hard work but totally worth it

    Hi everyone!

    Thanks for the warm welcome
  9. I just use a small glass bowl at the top of my highest piece of rock. You can't really see it back there and it works great! It's so cute to see all the horses line up at the trough for feeding time . People use all different types of feeding stations though, so just try whatever interests you. Seahorses need to be fed at least twice per day. I don't know about what feeding times are best, I just do mid-morning and early evening. Mine don't tend to eat for a while after waking up, so I try to wait a while after the lights come on, and be sure to feed them well before the lights go off. HTH, Kim

    Hi everyone!

Hi all. Just wanted to introduce myself. I can't believe it never occurred to me to see if Austin had a reef club, but I finally found it last night. I am very excited to get involved! My adventures in saltwater surround seahorses exclusively, but I try to do as much as I can with my seahorse tank, and try to resist the temptation to add another tank (very hard!). I have had my saltwater tank up and running since mid 2008. I am trying to learn all I can about soft corals and other things I can have in my tank with the horses. I look forward to learning from all of you. Kim
